"God himself is with us for our captain"
2 Chronicles 13:12 KJV
King Henry V of England is widely regarded as one of England's greatest monarchs, and his leadership qualities played a significant role in his success on the battlefield. Several factors contributed to his effectiveness as a leader. At the Battle of Agincourt (1415), despite being vastly outnumbered, he employed clever tactics which utilized the particular skills of his men and exploited the weaknesses of the French. He had a strong personal presence which inspired confidence in his troops. He led by example, often staying with his men in the front lines and enduring the same conditions, which earned him their respect and loyalty.
For us, our lives are all about spiritual warfare. For this warfare, God enlists us as his soldiers and equips us with elite weapons and armor (Ephesians 6:11-18). God is the general of our army and as the greatest possible leader, he displays and exceeds the exceptional qualities of the celebrated leaders of earthly history like Henry V.
The beauty of our military leader is, no matter what or where the battle is, he’s right there fighting with us and even for us. He strategically directs us in battle, protects us from the enemy’s worst attacks and teaches us how to fight skillfully. His power is invisible to the natural eye, but it is unmistakable in its force (2 Kings 19:35, 1 Kings 6:16-17). The power of knowing that God is the captain of our army is the confidence we can have in his presence and the assurance that ultimately we will be victorious through him. Without doubt, with God as our captain, we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37).
