"...and his rest shall be glorious"

Isaiah 10:11 KJV

Ever since sin entered earthly existence, mankind has been weighed down with toil and burden. Fortunately it was always promised that along with contending against the power of sin when he came, Christ would also bring mankind unimaginable peace. This peace is something every child of God has a right to. The thing is though, it is up to us to maintain it. How do we maintain this gift of divine peace? We do it by offloading the things we are worrying about out of our hands and into his through prayer (Psalm 55:22). We need to actively teach ourselves to focus in on God when trouble or distraction pops up -as Isaiah 26:3 states, this enables God to keep us in his ‘perfect peace’. We must regularly absorb God’s Word, because his counsel, his promises and his wisdom feed the peace within us. Gaining biblical knowledge helps us combat the common lies that many people take on that are true peace-killers. These are things like guilt, shame, the feeling that we need to be constantly working, the uneasy sense that we need to be like others and doubts about God’s love. God dislikes laziness, but he also makes clear that rest is just as important as work (Psalm 127:2, Proverbs 3:24). So if there is anything eating away at your physical or mental rest today, know that you have a right to release it to God in prayer, and fully enjoy his ‘glorious rest’.
